Some Lawmakers Want To Lengthen Summer Vacation For Students

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Lawmakers are making another attempt to
lengthen summer breaks for Kentucky students.
Democratic state Sen. Joey Pendleton of Hopkinsville is the lead
sponsor of a bill that would bar classes from starting until late August. Only school districts that have year-round schedules would be exempted from the mandate.
Pendleton acknowledges the measure faces an uncertain future in
a General Assembly that has refused to consider such legislation in
past years.
