County Gives Dead Beat Moms and Dads a Second Chance
There are more than 1,300 parents in Jessamine County behind on their child support but for the first week in March the County Attorney's office is granting amnesty to parents who make an effort to catch up.

There are more than 1,300 parents in Jessamine County behind on their child support but for the first week in March the County Attorney's office is granting amnesty to parents who make an effort to catch up.
"They have to make at least a 10% payment towards what they owe. We'll have them sign a paper stating that they will continue making payments," said Jessamine County Attorney Brian Goettle.
And if they do, the County Attorney says they will will recall the arrest warrant.
While the bench warrant will be wiped out, their child support bill is not.
This only gives parents a chance to make payment arrangements without the threat of being arrested. Laura Pettyjohn is not thrilled her ex is getting a second chance, but also says any money coming in is better than nothing.
Jessamine County Sheriff Corman advises parents wanted for non support to take advantage of the opportunity.
"If they don't take advantage of it, the chances are you're going to be arrested," he said.
Amnesty week in Jessamine County is
March 2-7.

Both parents should be held responsible for their kids.My Daughter has been divorced for 10 yrs & he has never been up to date with support. If she didn't work they'd not have a place to live. 1st chance ok. After that- pay up. They have to live, eat & be clothed every day.
I think its a shame to call someone a dead beat, when you don't know the facts. The law has may it so easy for my ex-wife to say and do what she want. She was cheating on me with the guy next door, ran off with him and didn't want anything to do with our child. My baby would cry for her mom and her mom would be running around with other men. I had to beg her to come and see our child, and then she decided she wanted child support, so she came and got her and wouldn't give her back. Now I'm paying child support and she does what she want. She would actually call me and ask if I would pay child support early so she can buy a boat. Can you believe that? Yet I'm the dead beat.
I believe child support should not be an issue for anyone, for one, custody should have been granted to the one who could support the child in the first place, although 90% of the time the mother gets the child, she should be able to afford her children (half of them won't even work) in the first place, if not give them to the father who is paying for them in the first place! there are too many deadbeat parents who won't work and depend on their ex's to support them, if it were that way they should have stayed and not left. for those who have kids and work, then that's great! cut down on your bills that you don't need, and be independent!
