Volunteers put together care packages for hundreds of soldiers

Posted: Wed 8:01 PM, Jun 20, 2012

Dozens of volunteers spent part of Wednesday night helping soldiers serving overseas.

The volunteers, from Military Missions and Operation Dustin Gross, teamed up in Lexington to put together care packages for hundreds of soldiers.

Operation Dustin Gross is named for a Montgomery County soldier, recently killed in Afghanistan.

Volunteers packed boxes with food, cards, letters, clothing, and other items.

They say the packages mean a lot to the soldiers.

"They're getting something from somebody besides a family member, so they know their job is appreciated by us," Joanne Blanck, Military Missions coordinator, said. "And so that's what we're here for."
