An animal abuse investigation is underway in Leslie County after four horses are found dead, several others in bad shape.

Police are searching for the man they say left the horses locked in a pen near the Cutshin community. Investigators say the horses had no food.

The Leslie County sheriff says several other horses found still alive may not survive the ordeal.
