General showers will be the main action over the next few hours. A few could remain on the strong to severe side in eastern parts of Kentucky.
Families for soldiers from around Eastern Kentucky gathered Saturday for a good luck rally as members of the 201st Engineer Battalion of the Kentucky National Guard prepare to leave.
Nearly 500 members of the battalion met at Boyd County Middle School for the rally all to show support for the group before they leave. The battalion will leave on Monday for a two month training session in Wisconsin. They will leave for Afghanistan in May and family members say the troops will gain huge life lessons from their tour of duty.
"It's a great adventure. I have put my feet down in eight foreign countries while I was in the service, a real experience. Something I couldn't afford to travel that way. Now, Brandon's gonna learn how to do it," said Bill Cignoni from South Point Ohio.
The battalion will keep the main supply routes in the country clear and safe and running heavy equipment.
