Some storms are possible during the morning and afternoon on Tuesday. Damaging winds and flooding will be the main threats. With an already soaked ground, expect strong winds to easily bring down some trees.
PIKEVILLE, KY -- Kentucky State Police in Pikeville are conducting a death investigation involving a fatality early Saturday in a trailer fire in Pike County.
A KSP news release states the fire occurred at 12:20 Saturday morning at 1552 Island Creek Rd., near Pikeville. Post #9 officers were called to the scene and found the trailer engulfed in flames. The local fire department was able to beat down the flames and later found human remains inside the charred structure.
Pike County Coroner Russell Roberts was called in to make a formal declaration of death involving the deceased. Roberts also took the the remains from the scene to the Pikeville Medical Center. No indication at this time as to the gender or age of the victim.
The officer in charge of the ongoing investigation is Detective Mitchell Adkins. Also involved in the case were: Sgt. A. Taulbee, Trp. K. Thacker, Tpr. M. Hampton, State Fire Marshall D. Brodrick, The Island Creek Fire Dept., the Coal Run Fire Dept., the DHP Ambulance Service and the Pike County Emergency Management Office.
