Court officials in Jessamine County are giving so-called dead-beat parents the chance to catch up on their child support without being arrested.
For this week, parents can make a 10% down payment toward what they owe and set up a payment plan. In return, the offenders can avoid jail time.
"Children and your family should always be top priority. I don't have much sympathy for someone who has fallen behind in their support, but I do agree that it's important to give a second chance," said Jessamine County Sheriff Kevin Corman.
There are more than 1300 parents in Jessamine County behind on their child support.
