LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A watermelon weighing 273.3 pounds has won the blue ribbon at the Kentucky State Fair.
If a bigger watermelon was grown in the U.S. so far this year, Kentucky State Fair officials said Friday they haven't heard about it.
Fair spokeswoman Amanda Storment says the watermelon is one of the five largest ever grown and the largest on record in the U.S. this growing season.
The watermelon was grown in Meade County, about 50 miles southwest of Louisville. The Kentucky State Fair opened Thursday and runs through Aug. 26.
