BEREA, KY -- The Madison County Sheriff's Office reports a 17-year old Mt. Vernon woman was killed in a head-on crash early today in Berea.
A news release from the Sheriff's office states that the crash occured about 1 a.m. today on Big Hill Road. Apparently, a car driven by a 51-year old Louisville man was headed east and another car driven by the 17-year old from Mt. Vernon was traveling west at the time of the crash. Neither of the victims' names was stated in the release.
Officials say it appears the vehicle driven by the Louisville man rounded a curve "partially in the oncoming lane" and colllided head-on with the vehicle driven by the Mt. Vernon teenager.
Sheriff's officials say the Louisville man, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Berea with "non-life-threatening injuiries." The news release states that the Mt. Vernon woman - who apparently was not wearing a seatbelt - was declared dead at the scene by the Madison County Coroner.
