An entire high rise Lexington apartment building had to be evacuated after a fire broke out.
It happened around 5:00pm Sunday at the Christ Church apartments on Rose St.
An apartment on the 12th floor caught fire, so all 186 people who live in the building had to evacuate. Many who live in the building are elderly or wheelchair-bound, but firefighters say the evacuation went smoothly.
"They are taught to shelter in place in the stairwells. And then we help them down the stairs. So they did that very effectively," firefighters said.
Three people had to be treated for smoke inhalation but they're expected to be okay.
The fire was contained to the one apartment, but several other apartments suffered water damage.
