Bicyclist dies after being hit by SUV

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police say a bicyclist was killed Thursday afternoon in an accident with an SUV.

The accident happened around 2 p.m. on Russell Cave Road, near Faith Street. That's between New Circle Road and West Loudon Avenue.

Police say the bicyclist was rushed to a hospital, but died shortly after arriving. The Fayette County coroner has identified him as 53-year-old Thomas Kerr, of Lexington.

The coroner says Kerr died of multiple blunt force trauma.

Police say the driver of the SUV, along with a passenger, have minor injuries.

Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the crash.

Witnesses tell WKYT the victim was thrown off the bike, and hit the SUV's windshield, before rolling off the hood. We're told the SUV then lost control and hit a utility pole.

Russell Cave Road reopened at the scene of the crash just after 5 p.m.
