Stealing Gas May Cost You Even More

By  |

If you drive off without paying for gas it will cost you your license if you get caught. The law has been in place since 2001.

But now, a bill making it's way through the House may give gas stations the power to actually get the stolen money back and an extra 30 dollars service charge.

If passed, gas stations with evidence of a drive off will work with the Department of Transportation to write a letter instructing the person responsible to pay up.

Senator Jack Westwood, the bill's sponsor, says the current law is effective but Officers are overworked and this would be one additional tool used to help cut down on the number of drive offs in the state.

The bill has passed the Senate and now heads to the House for a vote.
