Former Teacher Recalls WKU Coach Darrin Horn

By  |

Darrin Horn, the coach of the WKU Hilltoppers, may be a household name in western Kentucky, but he also has quite a following in central Kentucky.

He was a 1991 graduate of Tates Creek High School and was also a star basketball player.

His teacher from junior year U.S. History says he was a great student. Teri Harper says he was a leader and a young man filled with integrity. She says she knew then that he was destined to do great things.

His making the NCAA sweet 16 reminds her of 1991, when Tates Creek made it to the KHSAA sweet 16. Harper says even though the team lost in the championship, it was still exciting.

Horn won numerous awards for his contributions on the court, but he also won awards for what he did off the court.

Harper says she keeps in touch with Horn still and looks forward to his annual visits to her classroom.

She'll be dressed in WKU Hilltopper gear Thursday to root on one of her former students.

Western plays Thursday night. Tip off is at around ten. You can watch that game on the CWKYT, that's Insight cable channel five.
