Safety Alert Issued After Robbery Report

A safety alert remains in place on the University of Kentucky Campus.
A man living on campus told police he was robbed and kidnapped.
Now students living in the area are raising concerns about their safety.

A safety alert on UK's campus is prompted by another crime at the Greg Page Apartments.

"Scary knowing that someone could get into my apartment," says Amanda Ortt.

"This is really hitting close to home," says Shannon Payne.

Shannon Payne is a single mom and one of many students calling these apartments home.

"I don't know what to do at this point," she said. "I hope there is a lot more security."

Police say a Bluegrass Community Technical College student told them two armed men forced their way into his home, taking a laptop. Then, police say the men forced the student to take them to a bank to get cash.

"This makes me scared for people who are living here, " Ortt says.

"This isn't the first time an incident has happened here. A few weeks ago there was a shooting. Last summer, there was an attempted kidnapping," Payne explains.

Now many students are taking extra precautions, including locking their windows and doors.

Police say at this point in their investigation, they do have some persons of interest and are checking out the surveillance tape from the bank that may have been involved.

Suspect descriptions are as follows:

Suspect #1: Black male, 6’4” tall, medium complexion, thin build. He was last seen wearing a navy blue face mask, black zip-up hooded sweatshirt and light grey fleece pants. He was armed with a knife and last seen in the area of Parking Structure #2 and K-Lair Grill on Hilltop Avenue.
