LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Police in Louisville are investigating the death of a newborn found in a closet.

Police spokesman Phil Russell says an ambulance was called to a home in Louisville Tuesday afternoon and workers found the baby boy dead in a closet. Russell says the baby's 15-year-old mother was taken to a hospital.

Russell says police are handling the investigation as a death inquiry, pending a ruling by the medical examiner about the cause of death.

Deputy Jefferson County coroner Rita Taylor told The Courier-Journal that an autopsy was performed Wednesday morning, but the medical examiner has delayed a ruling on a cause of death pending further study.

The mother did do something wrong, she put her baby in the closet, whether it was dead at birth or not, she should have notified someone.

At 15 I was very mature. I had enough sense to know what caused pregnancy and I sure knew enough to take care of a baby. But not all teens mature at the same rate. Like the comment earlier, if she was mentally challenged that could be why this happened. But either way, where were her guardians? I have kids and if my 15 year old was pregnant I would know it.I hope other teens in the same shape read this and learn from it.SENSELESS.

Why in the world was the baby found in a closet. They can't say that the mother was young and didn't know any better, well unless maybe she was mentally impaired. I don't really know much about her other than she was 15 years old. Even so where were her parents or someone. I'm sure she wasn't a 15 year old living alone. And was is right after giving birth or something? Did she have give birth in the closet and then call 911? Nobody really knows all the details. There had to be a reason why they took the mother to the hospital. That's the only thing I can figure may have happened, and maybe it was stillborn and she paniced who knows?

well there goes another baby. all i can say for kids..is run run run. no hope for kids any more..soon as u born run like h... it might save you.

This has got to be one of the worst things I have heard in a long time. That poor baby.... it didn't deserve to be done like that. Even IF it died of natural causes it deserved enough respect to not be thrown in a closet. What is wrong with people these days?!?!?!?!
