The 10th annual Commonwealth Cleanup Week has arrived and volunteers from all across Kentucky are getting involved!
Volunteers from the Division of Waste Management in Frankfort lent their hands on Wednesday, filling up numerous bags of trash from along the Kentucky River alone.
Chris Fitzpatrick, Dept. of Environmental Protection, says, "It feels pretty good to come out here and do something good, instead of contributing to the problem like we usually do."
Each year, highway workers spend about 200,000 hours removing litter from roadways. The total yearly cost of litter removal averages 4-5 million dollars.
