Lexington police officer injured in crash

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A police officer was injured in a crash, while driving to pull over a suspected distracted driver.

It happened just before 11:00 on the off ramp from New Circle to Georgetown Road.

WKYT was the first to report the breaking details Wednesday night at Newsfirst at 11.

Since then, we've learned the driver involved was Officer Joseph Felinski.

Police tell WKYT he was responding to a call for back-up after witnessing what he thought was a driver who was possibly texting. We're told the officer looked down at his equipment, then realized he was off the road. He then lost control and crashed into a rock wall, causing his cruiser to flip.

Officer Felinski was taken to Central Baptist Hospital. He was treated for minor cuts and bruises and later released.

Accident reconstruction was called to the scene, which Lexington police say is standard procedure when an officer is involved in a crash. That stretch of road was shutdown for several hours while they investigated.
