First the Dame said it was leaving, now it appears other businesses will be moving from a downtown Lexington block. Developers want to build a $250 million high rise, complete with a hotel, condos, and retail space.

The co-owners of Mia's tells 27 NEWSFIRST they have made plans to move into the building that used to be Annabelles Restaurant on South Limestone. Maribeth Tolson says they plan to move sometime in May. She says they will close down there old location and open the new one the very next day.

Other businesses such as Busters and the Dame are still currently searching for new downtown locations.

In response to Creva.... 2 or 3 more? Please remember Festival Market. It wasn't even a high rise and Lexington could not keep it full for more than a year or so before it tanked. How many overpriced shops in the downtown area do we need? If this first high rise farce takes off and succeeds for a few years, then by all means let look into building one or two more, as it would indicate the size of lexington grew substantially. The only way that happens is the loss of impractical acres owned by so few right now. If you really want growth for Lexington, the excessive amount of land owned by horse farm owners will need to be reduced.

This is an outrage! Can we not do anything to help preserve the Rosenburg block of downtown? These buildings are upwards of 200 years old, and are important historical landmarks to our community. All of the buildings on this block are eligible for registration with the National Register of Historic Places. Why is this not being done to help save our downtown? Why is Lexington so intent on destroying such historically significant landmarks for *potential* profit? There is no way that this horrible eyesore of a high-rise, aka CenterPointe, will ever be as profitable as the city would hope. And what happened to urban infill? Why would our mayor even contemplate letting the WEBB BROTHERS, of all people, build such a monstrosity with their track record? If this story disgusts you as much as me, please visit www.preservelexington.org and do your part to help prevent downtown Lexington from developing into a hideous high-rise nightmare, and sacrificing a chunk of its historic charm.

I'm glad to see a new high rise coming to downtown. I think it will greatly enhance the appearance of our city. I only wish they would build 2 or 3 more high rises while they're at it!!!
