East KY. Power Wants Rate Hike For Environmental Upgrades

LEXINGTON, KY -- East Kentucky Power Cooperative is looking for an increase of nearly $475 million in customers' bills to help pay for environmental equipment.

The power cooperative filed the rate increase request with the Kentucky Public Service Commission on Friday. If approved later this year, the request would increase residential customers' bills by 6 percent to 7 percent, or $4.50 to $5 on average, by 2010, the co-op said.

East Kentucky Power's network of member co-ops serve around half a million Kentucky homes and businesses.
