Plans for a 40-story skyscraper for Downtown Lexington are on hold.
The $250 million project is targeted for the block on Main Street between Limestone and Upper. Demolition was expected to start in the next few months, but that project has been delayed.
A government review board was supposed to vote to approve the CenterPointe project at the city council chambers this afternoon. Instead the board members decided to delay the vote for 60-days.
Developers want to build the huge project that would include a four star hotel, condos, offices and retail space.
Preservation groups have called for the project to be moved elsewhere or scaled down.
City leaders tell us there will be another public meeting about the development project in the near future, before they take the vote.
Mayor Jim Newberry today repeated his support for the massive building.
