A Nicholasville man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges he repossessed a truck, with three children still inside.
Even with those children screaming, Nicholasville police say 26-year-old David Mahaffey refused to stop.
Police say he went to East Oak Street to repossess a truck, but the owner's three children, ages 9 months, 2 years, and 8 years, were still inside.
Police say Mahaffey took off anyway, despite the childrens' family members chasing after the car, and screaming for him to stop.
Police also say the children were screaming at Mahaffey to stop, but he wouldn't listen. They say witnesses claimed Mahaffey was driving very unsafely.
Mahaffey tells 27 NEWSFIRST he never noticed the children in the back seat and never heard them screaming until a few blocks away when the 8-year old asked who he was. Mahaffey says that is when he immediately called his boss and stopped the truck.
Police have charged Mahaffey with second degree unlawful imprisonment and not having an operator's license.
He's still lodged in the Jessamine County Detention Center on a $2,000 cash bond.
