Governor Vetoes Portions Of Proposed Budget

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Gov. Steve Beshear has vetoed portions of
the two-year, $19 billion state budget the General Assembly approved earlier this month.
Beshear's vetoes include language that would have prohibited the
Kentucky Horse Racing Authority from collecting a fee or assessment
from smaller thoroughbred race tracks with daily handles less than
$1.2 million.
Lawmakers approved an austere budget with the state facing a
$900 million revenue shortfall in the next two fiscal years. The budget included funding cuts to numerous government agencies and programs.
