Man Charged After Discovery Of Dead, Starving Horses

Police in Rockcastle County are investigating after the discovery of dead and emaciated horses.

Kentucky State Police say they received a complaint on Tuesday afternoon about the animals on a farm on Robinson Cemetery Road.

Police say they found five dead horses and 21 others in bad physical shape when they arrived at the farm.

The owner of the farm, 54-year-old Jerry Campbell, has been charged with 21 counts of 2nd degree cruelty to animals.

Police say it looks like Campbell was trying to care for too many of the animals at once.

Police also blame last year's drought and the hay shortage as factors in the problem.

The Rockcastle County Animal Shelter is accepting donations to help care for the animals.

You can mail donations to the shelter at:
Dee Hollow Road
Mt. Vernon, KY 40456.
