A central Kentucky hospital is making plans to basically double its size.
Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital announced a major construction project on Thursday morning.
A new patient services building will be going up on its Versailles Road campus. This will double the number of beds and half of them will be private.
The 40 million dollar project is being called the largest expansion in Cardinal Hill history.
"Certainly, we spent a lot of time as a board talking about this, debating it, but we feel its absolutely the right thing to do. Also, I think it's important to note that the hospital serves the state of Kentucky, not just this community," said Gary Cox, who serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
Cardinal Hill officials say construction should begin in the next few weeks. They hope to have the project finished by the fall of 2009.
