WKU Tuition On The Rise

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Students at Western Kentucky University will be paying a little more to study on the Hill next year.

University president Gary Ransdell said Thursday the school will raise tuition 9 percent beginning in the fall to offset a reduction in money from the state.

State resident undergraduates will pay $3,492 a semester next fall, up from $3,208. Nonresident tuition will rise from $7,735 to $8,364.

The school will have to endure a 6 percent cut in money from the state, or about $5 million. Ransdell said the tuition increase will help offset the loss and assist the university in dealing with unavoidable cost increases like utilities, increase in minimum wage and retirement contributions.
