An investigation is underway in Madison County after a woman died after fire broke out inside her home.
It happened at around 4:30 Sunday morning at a home on Prospect Street in Berea.
Fire officials say when they arrived, they saw flames and smoke pouring from the house.
They tried to reach the second floor, but say they couldn't because the stairway had already burned. They had to get on to the second floor by going through a window.
By the time thy got inside, it was too late. Fire crews found the body of a woman on the second floor.
Neighbors tell us the victim is named Mary Gabriel. There's no word yet on the cause of death.
Investigators say the fire was caused by an electrical short.
