Police: Shoplifting suspect hit police officer with car

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WKYT) - A police officer is recovering after police say a shoplifting suspect hit him with a car.

It happened late Friday night outside Greenwood Mall in Bowling Green.

Police say Bowling Green Police Officer Brad Hogue was trying to make an arrest, when police say the suspect got into a car, backed into the officer, and ran over his leg.

Police arrested the suspect, identified as Troy D. Tyson of Nashville, Tennessee, after he was involved in a crash nearby.

Police say the officer had minor injuries.

Tyson has been charged with assault on a police officer, fleeing or evading police, leaving the scene of an accident, and wanton endangerment on a police officer.
