Hazmat crews rushed to Central Baptist Hospital on Nicholasville Road late Tuesday night after police discovered a homemade bomb.
Police say it started when a Jessamine County family brought their 13-year-old son to the emergency room.
Police say the child inhaled dangerous chemicals while making the bomb that was in a Gatorade bottle
The child's mother brought the device and left it in a pick-up truck in the hospital's parking lot, police say.
Police say the mother thought doctors may have needed to see the device in order to help diagnose her son.
Police moved the pick-up truck from the ER parking lot to a nearby area, where the bomb was detonated.
The child was transferred from Central Baptist Hospital to Kentucky Children's Hospital for treatment.
Police aren't considering his injuries life threatening.
