UK, Tennessee battle for first SEC wins in Phillips' final game

Posted: Fri 9:55 AM, Nov 23, 2012

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT/AP) - Both Kentucky and Tennessee are seeking their first SEC victory in Saturday's game that pits an interim head coach (Tennessee offensive coordinator Jim Chaney) against Joker Phillips.

Phillips will coach his final UK game in Knoxville after it was already announced he won't return to the Wildcats next season.

Tennessee already has fallen short of nearly all its preseason goals.

The Volunteers won't reach a bowl game. They didn't avoid a third consecutive losing season. They weren't even able to save the job of coach Derek Dooley, who was fired Sunday.

For Kentucky, a win would keep stop the Vols from avenging last year's 10-7 loss that ended Tennessee's 26-game winning streak in the series.

Now that Kentucky (2-9, 0-7 SEC) has ended its history of frustration against Tennessee (4-7, 0-7), the Wildcats want to start a streak of their own.

The game will air live on WKYT beginning at noon.
