Police: Man trying to run from state trooper hit by van

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A man rushed to the hospital after police say a van hit him on Interstate 64 Friday night is in serious, but stable condition at UK hospital.

It happened just before 9 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 64 at mile marker 108, near Mount Sterling on Friday.

Kentucky State Police say a trooper had pulled over 21-year-old Steven Reilly, who was riding a motorcycle. The trooper says Reilly was riding at speeds of close to 110 miles per hour on the interstate. When the trooper got out of his car, police say Reilly started arguing with him, pushed his motorcycle in the trooper's direction, and then ran away.

We're told as Reilly tried to run across the interstate, he was hit by a van.

"All we know is that he was just traveling at a high rate of speed," Kentucky State Police Trooper Endre Samu said, "there's no known warrants at this point on him, so we don't know why he took off running."

Emergency crews flew the man to UK Hospital.
