FORT KNOX, Ky. (AP) - The Army is investigating a Fort Knox
soldier's death from an apparent gunshot wound.
The soldier's name has not been released pending notification of
family. A Defense Department policy prohibits releasing names until 24 hours after next of kin is informed.
Fort Knox says the soldier died Wednesday afternoon. He was an
Army specialist in the 16th Cavalry Regiment, which includes the Army's Armor School.
A Fort Knox spokesman declined to say whether the fatality was a
result of a training accident. Officials say the soldier received care from an onsite medic and then was flown to University Hospital in Louisville.
