Volunteers put together care packages for soldiers overseas

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Dozens of people gathered Thursday night to do something special for soldiers serving overseas during the holidays.

Volunteers for Military Missions boxed up care packages for soldiers based in Afghanistan, Kuwait, South Korea, and Africa.

The packages contain snacks, clothing, and other items soldiers can use while on duty.

Volunteers say getting the packages ready to send is a labor of love.

"Everybody thinks of the troops during the holidays," Joanne Blanck of Military Missions said. "We try to send to as many people as we can during the holidays, to give them a little taste of home."

Military Missions plans to send around 3,000 care packages overseas in time for Christmas.

If you'd like to volunteer, or donate items for the packages, you can find more information at military-missions.org.
