Children Found Alone At Madison County Home Save Email Print

It was a shocking discovery for police in Madison County.

They say they found two young children all alone at a home on Lee Drive with guns and drugs inside.

Neighbors told police they knew something was wrong when they noticed a 7-year-old trying to get inside the home after school.

When the Madison County Sheriff's Department arrived, they say they found the door was locked, and a 5-year-old child inside.

"I walked up to the door, and you could see her through the curtain, and she was knocking on the window," Madison County Sheriff's Deputy Tim Humble said. "I knocked on the door, we couldn't make entry."

Humble says he could tell right away that the child was scared.

"I asked her if she could open the door," Humble said. "She didn't know how."

Humble says he didn't know long the girl had been locked inside.

Her older sister, a 7-year-old, was found outside. Neighbors told police she often went to their homes, because the door to her home was often locked when she got home from school.

They finally called the Madison County Sheriff's Department last Friday, and that's when they found what was going on.

The Sheriff's Department tracked down the children's' father, 30-year-old Aaron Turner. They say he told them he was in Lexington with the children's mother, who was having a baby.

When Turner arrived home, he was arrested on two counts of criminal abuse.

The Sheriff's Department also says they found cocaine and other drugs in the kitchen, and guns underneath piles of clothes in the bedroom.

The children are now staying with Turner's parents. The mother will not be charged, because she was in the hospital and did not know what was going on.

Aaron Turner is being held in the Madison County Detention Center. We're told more drug charges are pending.

They were sent home with his parents. (Their Grandparents)

Just what they need-another baby! They are probably on the draw for the whole family. They don't deserve the children, and I hope they are placed in a safe, loving home.

People like myself have to go through a process of classed, inspections, etc. That is all fine with me in order to have a child. People like these are having yet another baby. This is redicilous. Save the children and help those who want to become loving parents. I promise that they will not be left home alone, we will not leave guns and drugs in reach of children since we do not associate with any of those things.

Everything about this screams child abuse by both parents. Those poor kids!!!

I cannot wait to see the drug test on baby's myconium... I have learned that social services do what they can, but the judge has final decision.

Posted by: a mom Location: richmond on May 7, 2008 at 08:28 PM
I don't agree with what they did in anyway, BUT, who are we to judge them???? It is not our place to judge anyone!!!!!

Go over social services heads and contact Frankfort's main office and complain. It work's I did. That's the problem they all want to sit back and get paid for doing nothing. But yet they wonder why so many children are dieing. I think they need to pass a law that if you have had your children taken away from you for any reason. That it ought to be mandatory that they tie their tubes where they can't have any more children. We need that law.

Stories like this make me sick. I wish it were legal to sterilize people like this. They don't deserve the title of "parents", nor do they need to be bringing more children into this world when they obviously don't know how to care for them in the first place. Instead of our government footing the bill for all of these unfit people having babies, they should re-allocate the funds into shutting down these baby-making factories. These children, and others like them, deserve better.

i feel the same law should applie for chidern as gun a 2 week waiting peiord classes and communitty service.then these maybe they would get handled with care

Oh wow, someone ehre says this is number 4!!! Ok we recall 2 of the 3 that was endangered...where was the 3rd one?

There's no way that the mother didn't know anything about the guns. The drugs could have been hidden from her knowledge, but it's not likely. It's just as much her responsibility to make sure that the children are safe as it is the father's. I can pretty much agree with most of these comments. This is just crazy. The fourth(?) child needs to be taken, along with the others. Of course, they'll probably be right back where they were by the time this is all over with. Do any of you notice that well-treated kids are the ones who get social services inspecting their homes? It's the children in unclean/unsafe homes who are left to suffer. It's crazy.

To a Mother- Thats a good question seeing that was the 2nd time that the Madison County Sherriff's department was called that week over that 1st grader. The neighbor called the school the 2nd time she was let off the bus and told him that the sherriff would be in his office if they didnt help protect this child. The neighbors didnt know about the 4 yr old in the house until that 2nd call.

How long had this been going on? How were those little ones eating? Who dressed the 7-year old for school? I am suprised the 7-year old said nothing at school about being alone...this is so bizarre..

Posted by: concerned Location: Lexington on May 7, 2008 at 10:27 AM
The mother is NOT going to be charged? WOW, she gets off lucky. You cannot tell ANYONE she did not know the children were in danger. She is JUST as guilty as he is. Just because she HAPPENED to be HAVING YET ANOTHER BABY TO ENDANGER does not mean she had NOT A CLUE what was going on with the rest of her children, and really, she did NOT know about the drugs and weapons. REALLY? They were LAYING in the floor? She must be BLIND or completely stupid if she DID NOT KNOW.

Posted by: Neighbor Location: Richmond on May 7, 2008 at 09:50 AM
Oh the newborn is their 4th child. They have one between the 4 yr old and the newborn. They didnt disclose where this baby was at the whole time.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 7, 2008 at 09:30 AM
Those poor babies, it amazes me how parents can be so selfish to look out for themselves and not for the kids, HELLO how hard is it to call up a relative and say My wife is having a baby can you watch the girls, PLEASE, and too have drugs in the home, huh, I would flush them down the toliet so fast the husband wouldn't even hear it flush while I was kicking his butt out the front door. Get a REAL job and be a Real man and be a DAD that your kids can be proud of, and as for the mom, tell him to straighten up or get out, support your kids and yourself, and be proud of your accomplishments, no man is worth your kids being hurt and in a home where they're drugs and guns that they can get too. I hope God sends his angels to watch over those little girls and the new addition.

Posted by: A mom Location: KY on May 7, 2008 at 09:24 AM
Yeah, sounds like she needed to be bringing another baby into the world. I am sure they are on welfare and food stamps too, unless the dad's drug business has been doing "extra good" this year.......

The mother is just as guilty as he is. These problems started long before she went to the hospital. We have all wondered how they pay their bills because neither seems to have a steady work schedule, but now we know! Shame on Social Services and the law enforcement system! These kids will be right back in this situation in no time!

Posted by: Anonymous Location: richmond on May 7, 2008 at 08:51 AM
wow!!i had 3 kids,i always know were they are,i live up the road from here.drugs is taking over the world.i also think the mother should be checked for drugs.an she had to know there were drugs in the house. someone had to of locked the 5 yr old in the house.i just hope that 5 yr old isnt someone my daughter gose to school with.these people shouldnt have kids .they need 24 hour care no matter how old they are.my oldest is 14 i wouldnt leave him alone.when you become a mother your a mother for the rest of your life.i hope she gets her tubes tied thats all we need is for her kids to grow up unsupervised.thats wat is wrong with kids these days.an the dad i hope you never see your kids again .i cant beleave this happen were i live.people get with it or stop having kids.

Posted by: Jules Location: Lexington on May 7, 2008 at 08:46 AM
No one can say that the mother didn't know that there were drugs in the home! And leaving guns in piles of clothes in the bedroom? Come on, the mother is just as guilty as the father. I understand when you are having a baby time can be sensitive BUT you have to make sure your OTHER children are being taken care of! The neighbors say that the 7 yr old often comes to their house because the door is locked, so obviously this isn't the first time this has happened. Those children need to be in protective custody at least until some drug tests come back, both of the parents should have to under go testing and shouldn't get their kids back until someone makes sure they will be safe. We all need to pray for the safety of those children!!!

Where were the grandparents to start with!

Posted by: Darlene Location: KY on May 7, 2008 at 07:44 AM
Okay, lets go have another baby and just not worry about the 5 year old that we are leaving home and the 7 yr old that will be home soon. How the heck ya forget about your other kids when a new one is arriving? I know she is in the hospital having another but did she not wonder where her other baby was? If that house had burned she would be left without that precious child. It is called ignorance. I say test them both for drugs and see just how fit they both are. I am sorry but I NEVER leave my child unattended for any reason.

I have no faith in the social services, law, or courts in Madison Co. My step-daughter has been left at home by herself, mulitple times, and social services has done nothing to remove her. This was discovered when she was 9 and at 12 it still goes on. I've told her to call 911 the next time her mother leaves her overnight by herself. But, she's afraid. What kind of a parent does this? It just takes one time, for your child to disappear.

Posted by: mom Location: ky on May 7, 2008 at 07:14 AM
surely the mom knew where her kids were left at.i made sure mine was with family before i went to hospital to have a baby.

Posted by: SGT Howard Location: Afghanistan on May 7, 2008 at 02:13 AM
Mother did not know what was going on, did she wonder where the kids where and who was watching them? any good mother i know always knows where her kids are....

Posted by: Neighbor Location: Madison Co on May 6, 2008 at 11:15 PM
The mother KNEW he was a drug dealer... why isnt she held on those charges? How sad..the whole thing is sad. Madison Village is a close neighborhood. The land lord needed to be a better landlord. That is just ridiculous. SCREEN your potential renters. EVER heard of a BACKGROUND check?

Posted by: Rachel on May 6, 2008 at 08:37 PM
Come on, like the mother didn't know what was going on in the home before she went to the hospital to have the baby. When I was having my 3rd child I knew where my other two children were and who they were with. Just because you are in the hospital doesn't mean you can stop caring and worrying about your other children.

Posted by: sheila Location: richmond on May 6, 2008 at 07:31 PM
I think both parents should be charged not just the father. You can't tell me the mother had no idea there was drugs in her house especially since they were found in the kitchen. The mother is as guilty as the father and they should take all 3 of their kids away from them. People like this should never be parents.
