Children Found Alone At Madison County Home

It was a shocking discovery for police in Madison County.

They say they found two young children all alone at a home on Lee Drive with guns and drugs inside.

Neighbors told police they knew something was wrong when they noticed a 7-year-old trying to get inside the home after school.

When the Madison County Sheriff's Department arrived, they say they found the door was locked, and a 5-year-old child inside.

"I walked up to the door, and you could see her through the curtain, and she was knocking on the window," Madison County Sheriff's Deputy Tim Humble said. "I knocked on the door, we couldn't make entry."

Humble says he could tell right away that the child was scared.

"I asked her if she could open the door," Humble said. "She didn't know how."

Humble says he didn't know long the girl had been locked inside.

Her older sister, a 7-year-old, was found outside. Neighbors told police she often went to their homes, because the door to her home was often locked when she got home from school.

They finally called the Madison County Sheriff's Department last Friday, and that's when they found what was going on.

The Sheriff's Department tracked down the children's' father, 30-year-old Aaron Turner. They say he told them he was in Lexington with the children's mother, who was having a baby.

When Turner arrived home, he was arrested on two counts of criminal abuse.

The Sheriff's Department also says they found cocaine and other drugs in the kitchen, and guns underneath piles of clothes in the bedroom.

The children are now staying with Turner's parents. The mother will not be charged, because she was in the hospital and did not know what was going on.

Aaron Turner is being held in the Madison County Detention Center. We're told more drug charges are pending.
