State trooper killed in crash on I-64 in Clark County

CLARK COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A Kentucky State Police trooper is dead after a crash on Interstate 64 in Winchester.

The crash happened in the eastbound lanes around 7 p.m. Tuesday, shortly after another crash involving a car that was on fire in the westbound lanes,

Trooper Anson Tribby, 25, of Mt. Sterling, was killed in the crash.

Police say Tribby was off duty at the time, and was in his personal vehicle, a 1999 Toyota pickup truck. Kentucky State Police say he ran into a flatbed wrecker operated by John Masterson, age 54, of Winchester, KY.

Trooper Tribby was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clark County Coroner.

Trooper Tribby was a 2.5 year veteran with the Kentucky State Police and was assigned to the Morehead Post. We're told he is originally from Maysville, but moved to Mt. Sterling upon graduating from the KSP Academy.

State Police tell WKYT that Tribby came from a law enforcement family. His father had recently retired as a detective from the Commonwealth Attorney's Office in his native Mason County.
