Restaurants Required To Post Health Inspection Scores Effective Wednesday Save Email Print

Starting tomorrow restaurants in Lexington will be required to post their health inspection scores.

The scores will be placed in a spot near the restaurants' entrances where everyone can see them. Scores of 85 or higher with no major violations will get a green label. Anything lower than 84 will get a red label.

The Fayette County Health Department approved the policy last month. Restaurants are inspected every six months.

Health officials say overall Lexington restaurants have scored relatively well in the past.

Even owners like Jim Sawyer, who owns Sawyer's Grille, says he welcomes the opportunity to prove to his customers that his place is cleanly and healthy.

NOTE TO RESTAURANTEURS: Lots of people (myself included) will start relying on these posted scores to determine whether to eat at your establishment again. With so many food poisonings going on and such, I'm not eating at any place that can't measure up!

They should post the scores on-line!

Why have we been dragging our feet on this matter for so many years,we hear about food poison because of something these eateries have not thrown out earlier or refused from suppliers all because of the almighty dollar,so I certainly welcome this law and wish it would become state wide in Ky.

This should be done state wide.

I agree it is long overdue! No more surprises when you read the newspaper and see a resturant you eat at in there.

Louisville has been doing this for awhile as well. What's the big deal with the restaurants? If they aren't up to snuff, then they need to fix their problems! I'd much rather eat at an establishment scoring 100 than one scoring 80. The ones scoring 80 should already know what to do to improve their scores and should do so before the inspections occur. It's not rocket science, folks. I ran a restaurant for over three years and never scored below 98.
