The search continues for a dog, stolen from a Lexington paraplegic man.

Terry Smith just got his dog, China, back in February. She was quarantined after chewing off his toes.

Despite that, Smith says China is one of his best friends, but after coming home from a hospital stay on Monday, he says the dog was nowhere to be found.

"I opened the door and she wasn't there to greet me like she always is," said Smith. "At that point, I knew she was gone."

Smith is concerned someone may use his dog to fight. "That has always been my concern, I don't understand it, but people do it all the time," said Smith.

Smith says China basically looks the same, only bigger. She weighs about 50 pounds. If you believe you've seen China you are asked to contact your local police department or animal shelter.

Smith is offering a reward for the dog's safe return.

I feel sorry for the dog and it's so stupid that some low life person would steal a dog from someones home. I hope this so called person is found and punished. I pray the dog will be ok!

Stealing the man's dog is lower than whale blank on the bottom of the ocean.

I hope that China is returned to her owner safe and harm free.

I really hope he finds his dog! Mine has been missing for 3 weeks now and it breaks my heart. Hopefully somebody will find China and bring her home.

Oooo Jim you scare me. Hurt that dog and I will find you and do the same, ooo you scare me.

I'm just glad his dog's name is China instead of Korea or he'd have to eat himself!

Posted by: lynda Location: ky on May 15, 2008 at 09:57 AM
i hope you find china and that she is ok. i know i would be lost without my dog. forget those like Jim that post stupid comments because they have nothing better to do with themselves and have no compassion for humans or animals..

Posted by: Anonymous Location: kentucky on May 15, 2008 at 09:53 AM
you should feel really bad if u took this dog cause she was just a puppy and shes his best friend.

Posted by: ann Location: anywhere on May 15, 2008 at 09:34 AM
Very well said Ramona, Daniel and Wow.People in this day and time have no compassion for anything. It's all about #1. I hope China is found safe from harm. Any decent human being would feel the same way, unlike Jim and Melissa. They have some major issues to deal with. I cannot believe the stupidity of people in this country.

If the humane society would just invest in a tow (toe) truck, they might just be able to help find this dog. I heard he escaped on foot (one not being his own) and might be hanging out with a few toeds (toads). If you play music from Toad (toed) and the Wet Sprockets, he'll come running.

If I see the dog I will baby it to death until I can get it back to it's owner. It is clear as a bell he loves China and the negative comments are a waste of space! If these people had "something" , if they are capable of caring for anything or anyone, gone they would want it back. They should be ashamed as well as whomever took the dog. Is there any chance China just ran away? Maybe she thought she was going to find her owner. My dogs miss me terribly bad when I am gone.I sure hope he gets her back SAFELY!!!

Way to go, Ramona and Daniel. I totally agree! The man still loves his dog and forgives her for what she did! I would too if it had been my dog! All some people can do is sit around and find things to complain about instead of having some compassion or sympathy. it is sick when it involves a disabled person who needs some help, such as finding his dog. I am a Christian and wish the owner the best and pray his dog is returned and whoever took her has a change of heart and asks forgiveness.

Ben & Jim: What a waste of a piece of skin ya'll are for being such losers! Obviously you lack maturity & compasion but must you be such jerks?

Posted by: alan Location: Lincoln co.. on May 14, 2008 at 04:39 PM
well you know what they say...theres one in every crowd and jim and ben are living proof... (edited)!!!!!! i hope the dog is returned too his owner safe and sound...dispite some people!

Posted by: Anonymous on May 14, 2008 at 04:38 PM
Jim, you have no heart. Your comment was just plain mean. Ben, I'm sure you were trying to be funny...You failed miserably! Whoever has this mans dog return it to him, you should be ashamed of yourself for doing such a cruel thing!

Posted by: Wow Location: RIchmond on May 14, 2008 at 03:55 PM
@Jim & Melissa. Youd both better hope your kid winds up breaking in my house late at night. As I shoot stupid people before I do animals that dont know any better. I bet both of you have hurt more living things with your cars than youve ever been touched by an animal.

Posted by: Kathy Location: Lexington on May 14, 2008 at 03:40 PM
I drive by Terry's house every day on my way home from work. I have seen him outside countless times with China and you can tell he loves her. If I see her I will make sure she gets home.

Posted by: Ramona Location: Richmond on May 14, 2008 at 03:08 PM
I cannot believe that people would steal a pet from a quadriplegic person!!! This is a sick, sick world that we live in! Come on, people, have some basic human decency!!!

Posted by: Daniel Location: Lexington on May 14, 2008 at 02:52 PM
People, the point is that this man loves his dog and wants her back!! It doesn't matter what this dog did to hime--it's his dog and HIS decision. All of you should be ashamed of yourselves!! Mind your own business and let people live their lives! I hope and pray that whoever took this dog returns her safely to her OWNER. Yes, that's right, her owner! HE wants his dog back. I'm disgusted by the lack of regard for others that so many people have today.

Posted by: anonymous Location: lexington on May 14, 2008 at 02:33 PM
People have a heart. You would want someone to keep an eye out for your dog, if it went missing! The man still loves the dog despite what the dog did to his toes, respect that, you too Jim. We have two dogs at our house. It is wrong to take someone else's belongings and we know that. I pray the dog gets returned safely to it's owner.

Posted by: April Location: KY on May 14, 2008 at 01:59 PM
Wow, Ben and Jim, you should be ashamed of yourselves. This was a puppy that chews on everything like every other puppy. The owner, being quadraplegic, could not feel his toes, therefore did not tell the dog to stop. You should be ashamed for making such comments like this. People can be so childish. I am sorry for the missing dog and agree with nancy that if someone has the dog they should feel very ashamed as well and hopefully it will get a safe return home!!

Posted by: Melissa Location: Paintsville, KY on May 14, 2008 at 01:41 PM
Why would you want this dog back after it chewed your toes off? They should have put the dog down before it hurts anyone else!

Posted by: tanya Location: frankfort on May 14, 2008 at 01:35 PM
Nice Jim, why would you hurt that dog???

Posted by: Ben Location: Only in Ky on May 14, 2008 at 01:24 PM
Maybe the dog is looking for some more toes.

Posted by: nancy Location: nicholasville on May 14, 2008 at 01:21 PM
I hope China comes back home. If someone took this dog, they should feel ashamed. She is not only his pet but his friend.

Posted by: Jim Location: Kentucky on May 14, 2008 at 12:37 PM
The dog will not return safe if it shows up at my house.
