With gas prices nearing $4 dollars a gallon, more and more vehicle-owners are choosing to use public transportation.

In fact, here in Lexington, ridership on public transportation has more than doubled since the beginning of 2005.

April 2008 came close to setting a new record for Lextran. Roughly 350,000 chose to travel through Lexington public transportation.

Dave Riggins, Director of Community Affairs for Lextran, says, " We are seeing more and more vehicle-owners riding our Lextran buses, and we will do what we can to accommodate those folks."

Lextran has been averaging about 14,000 riders per day.

Thank you property owners for bailing out the failing Lex Tran with the added burden of the property tax increase. I get to ride cheap now!
