I love our police but we need a serious gang unit. The past two years have been violent in Lexington.

I agree with Stanley, the "wets" have taken the Valley over.

I guess those of you that think Gardenside is a bad area have probably never been there. This story sounds fishy anyway. How many times do we hear about someone who was shot by unknown perpetrators showing up at a hospital and then come to find out they shot themselves or were involved in a drug deal? Until innocent bystanders start to get hurt there really won't be much of a push to do anything about these gangs anyway. Usually if they don't have a beef with you they leave you alone.

The police need to start looking for the real gang members and stop concentrating on our kids who have lived here their whole lives and never been in any kind of gang. These so-called gang members and spanish gangs have ruined our neighborhoods and destroyed families and the cops our locking up the wrong kids.

This Mayor needs to be replaced. He is so worried that the illegal Hispanic population will be offended, that the Citizens in this community must be forced to live in fear for the danger is growing every day. 287g needs to be used in out police force, NOW.

I will tell you what I think about the Gang "Problem" everywhere. It is the Federal, State, and Local Governments fault for not making stronger laws, and punishing people under the age of 18 for the crimes they commit. I say give them "all" warning, give them time to lay down their weapons, stop the violence, and then if they don't comply, as with any "enemy" send in the military to stop the hog wash! I know we are not supposed to have military action on our home soil, but what about the "militant" action created by the gangs? Come on! I think it is absolutely insane the way this country is becoming, and we just sit by and allow it to happen. We just sit by and allow alot of wrong things to happen. Pretty soon, you won't even be able to say it's the USA, it will be the united something, but united what, who knows? Seriously folks, we need to get a grip on this country, and the people in it. I am not that old, but I can tell you, you didn't hear this kind of garbage 20 years ago!

WHY NO MATTER WHERE IN THE WORLD THAT ALL THE GANGS ARE IN POOR AREAS, BECAUSE SOCITEY HAS MADE IT THAT WHY. RICH FOR THE RICH AND POOR FOR THE POOR. JUST LOOK AT LEXINGTON ON SIDE OF TOWN VERY NICE AND THE OTHER SIDE YOU DON'T EVEN WANT TO GO AROUND FOR NOTHING IN THE WORLD. PEOPLE IT IS ONLY GOING TO GET WORSE.

How about giving info on suspects. Is this a gang of Illegal aliens? Are we afraid to report what their skin color and nationality?

Gangs don't just form due to bleak economic situations anymore, Anonymous, they are complex criminal organizations that are branching out to further the enterprise of drug sales. If there is a demand for illegal drugs, there will be gangs. Obviously there is a demand for drugs in Lexington, so it goes to say that there will be gang activity in Lexington. Gang affiliation is also brought by people who relocate to an area and start their own chapters of established gangs. In addition, gangs are started for protection of individuals from other groups. All three of these situations are why there are gangs in Lexington.

How can this Mayor continue to allow such criminal activity to be tolerated??? Gardenside was a beautiful older neighborhood - now it's becoming a dumping ground. Shame on you Newberry and LFUCG!!! And shame on you reporting agencies that don't divulge descriptions of perpetrators!

Crime alert for what, looking for two undescribed men who shot someone. Great reporting or are the police not reporting all the facts.

Posted by: KY Location: KY on May 16, 2008 at 09:11 AM
But we don't have a gang problem...and if we say it enough times, maybe someone will believe it.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 16, 2008 at 08:08 AM
usually gangs form in areas where the cost of living is way too high, there's not enough jobs and life is bleak (chicago, la, ny city). None of those scenarios really exist in Lexington. So stupid that gangs would form here. bored, lazy, stupid, drug involved people who have nothing better to do I guess.
