Group Raising Money for Child Hurt in Crash

Three-year-old Brady Gibbons was critically injured in a March 25th crash in Laurel County that his father did not survive.

“Apparently just the sweetest little guy you ever met in your life, outgoing and energetic,” says Terry Smith of Pond Fork Lodge in Jackson County when talking about Gibbons.

The crash left little Brady with serious injuries and medical bills totaling more than $100,000.

“We at the lodge decided, we'll have fundraiser,” Smith said.

Smith and James Miller of Waco Masonic Lodge in Madison County are hosting a benefit concert and cookout this Saturday at Muncy Park in Jackson County. They're hoping people will come and dig deep.

“Whatever we make up is more than they got now. And they're going to need it,” says Smith.

Brady was covered under his father's insurance but since his father died in the crash, his family says the boy's medical expenses are no longer covered. Family members say Brady's mother can't work and care for the boy at the same time.

Brady is home from the hospital but he has a long way to go. He lost vision in one eye and he had re-constructive surgery. He'll also have to have continual trips to the hospital because he sustained leg injuries in the accident.

About a half dozen groups are scheduled to perform. Businesses have donated items for an auction. Everything raised will go to Brady's family.
