Fallen Officers Added To Memorial At EKU

They gave the ultimate sacrifice while trying to keep the people of the commonwealth safe.

On Wednesday, 25 officers killed in the line of duty were honored during a ceremony on the Eastern Kentucky University campus.

Their names were added to the Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial at the Department of Criminal Justice Training Center in Richmond.

Three of the names were of officers, killed in the past year.

Barren County Constable Ronnie Jones was killed April 2, 2007 when his patrol car has hit by a tractor trailer.

Forrest Hills Chief Randy Wells was killed October 29, 2007 when his patrol car was hit by a truck while Wells was blocking traffic for a construction crew.

Clay City Police Chief Randy Lacy died on June 13, 2007. Investigators say he was shot to death by a prisoner who was sitting in the back seat of his patrol car.

In addition to the three officers killed in 2007, another 22 names were added the the memorial on Wednesday. They were killed between 1875 and 1995. Names are automatically added to Kentucky's monument if they are added to the national memorial first.
