Very slow moving showers and thunderstorms will move into our area overnight and Sunday. The potential for flooding will be heightened in southern and eastern Kentucky.
24-year-old Johnny Ray Puckett pleaded guilty to causing the injuries that led to the death of 63-year-old Carter County Constable Elmer Kiser.
This afternoon, a judge sentenced Puckett to ten years on the manslaughter charge and five years on various drug charges. Puckett was originally charged with murder, but last month he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.
Kiser stopped Puckett on suspicion of drunk driving in September, 2006. Investigators say Kiser was killed by blunt force trauma to the middle of the head. Kiser slipped into a coma and died a week later.
Today, the judge said Puckett must serve 85% of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
