Newly released video shows scam suspect in jail

Updated: Fri 6:04 PM, Mar 01, 2013

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Newly released video is providing another look at how a man admittedly pulled off a scam that targeted Lexington shoppers.

WKYT talked to 30-year-old Gary Thompson earlier this week, who told us that he made thousands of dollars begging for money, by claiming he was mentally challenged.

Lexington Police arrested him twice in February for begging and theft by deception charges.

Newly released video from the Fayette County Detention Center shows Thompson's behavior when he arrived at the jail after those arrests.

The video from February 5 shows Thompson is not mentally challenged because he can be heard speaking normally.

The video also shows a corrections officer counting the money Thompson collected as part of the scam.

Despite being exposed on television, Thompson said he doesn't plan to stop begging people for money.
