Clinton To Bow Out of Race

WASHINGTON (AP) - A campaign official says Hillary Rodham Clinton has decided to end her historic presidential campaign.

At the same time, Clinton will leave her options open to retain her delegates and promote her issue agenda.

The former first lady told House Democrats during a private conference call today that she will express support for Barack Obama's candidacy.

She will congratulate Obama for gathering the necessary delegates to be the Democratic Party's nominee.

Clinton will speak at an event in Washington, D.C., on Saturday. The New York senator will urge once-warring Democrats to focus on
the general election and defeating Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

The announcement brings to a close an epic five-month nominating

An adviser says Clinton and her lieutenants have been discussing
various ways a presidential candidacy can end, including suspending
the campaign to retain control of her convention delegates.
