Ohio Man Wanted; Fired Shot At Ky. Deputy At Traffic Stop

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (AP) - Kentucky State Police say an Ohio man shot at a Lewis County, Kentucky Sheriff's Deputy after he was pulled over in a traffic stop on the Kentucky side of the Ohio River near Portsmouth.

The Lewis County, Ky. Sheriff's Office says the suspect is now believed to be back in Ohio. Ohio authorities, including the Ohio State Highway Patrol. are searching for the suspect.

Kentucky State Police were assisting in the search Saturday evening for Jesse Dixon of West Portsmouth, Ohio while he was believed to still be in Lewis County.

Lewis County Deputy Mike Edington attempted to stop a car near Firebrick, Ky. Saturday evening when the driver stepped out and fired a round at the deputy. Authorities say the deputy was not injured and Dixon fled on foot.

Deputy Johnny Bivens said the deputy fired back, but it was not clear if Dixon was injured.
