Police Officer Shoots, Kills Stabbing Suspect

An officer is under investigation and a central Kentucky woman fights for her life after an incident that left a man dead and sent two of his family members to the hospital.

It happened just before seven on Monday morning on Turpin Drive in Richmond.

Richmond police say Richard Henderson stabbed his mother, 76-year-old Sara Henderson, and his sister, 47-year-old Brenda Henderson.

When a police officer got to the scene, he says Richard Henderson was still holding the knife. The officer says Henderson wouldn't listen to a commands to drop his weapon, instead, he kept walking towards the officer.

The police officer, who has not been identified, says Henderson threatened him, so he used his gun to shoot Henderson once in the torso. Henderson later died from his injury.

Both Sara and Brenda Henderson were taken to UK Medical Center. Brenda was treated and released. Sara is listed in serious condition.

The Madison County Sheriff's Department and Lexington Police are helping with the investigation.

The officer involved in the shooting is currently on paid administrative leave until the investigation is complete. That is standard procedure after every police involved shooting.
