A Boyle County mother, who police say allowed her 18-month-old son to ingest cocaine, entered a guilty plea in court Thursday morning.

Ashley Carrier plead guilty to wanton endangerment charges. A judge recommended a four year prison sentence, but she will not have to serve time if she goes through a five year diversion program.

Carrier, and the child's aunt, Jessica Coffman, were arrested last fall.

Coffman was sentenced to three years in prison earlier this week.

Carrier will be back in court on August 5th for final sentencing.

Like I said before, whether the drug was prescription or not, the parents should suffer consequences. Are your cleaning items put away? are your meds out of reach? I am sure they are, as they should be, when there are children around. A baby less than 2 should not be able to reach anything like that, a 6 yr old should not be able to. Protect our children. Lisa, I am soo glad that you are stepping up to the plate and taking care of these children, but that does not mean these girls should not do time for their actions.

( This kid injested cocaine) ok dr johnathan i guess the Drs. at UK and in danville got it wrong they didnt know what the baby got into. Sorry but I will believe the drs reports, when you can prove to me that he got into coke then I will happily agree with you. Until then i will believe the reports that i have.

No one is saying this is just a little accident. Don't misunderstand the comments about the mother and the aunt. They are expected to be responsible for what happened to the boy. But what is being said is that you are basing your assumptions about the "truth" from what you have heard in the press. If it will sell newspapers or get you to watch their TV station and commercials, they will twist the truth however it suits their needs. We are just trying to point out that the family knows what happened. The lawyers and the judge who have seen the evidence also know the truth. I guess the police in Danville have never made mistakes in the processing of supposed drug dealers. Or would admit to the fact that things got turned around. Certainly with the boy's safety being the first concern, this was the focus as it should be. But I am looking at the news items here and terrible things happen to all of us. These girls aren't monsters. Careless and irresponsible yes. Evil, no.

I think what Lisa is trying to tell you is that the little guy didn't test positive for cocaine. She was at the hospital, picked up the boy, knows the lab report. Took care of him and has custody of him. The press got it wrong. If there was such a gross breach of this child's privacy rights by revealing his name when he is a minor, how can you be sure the rest is correct? Did you know that if the little guy was on amoxilicilin or ampicilin that this could produce a false positive on cocaine? I just found that on one of the medical websites. While it is easy to focus on the mother's alleged negligence (and that will be sorted out later this summer), you are reacting to the things you have seen on TV and in the press. If any of you were in the courtroom or have access to what the lawyers have concerning the evidence I would listen to what you have to say. Otherwise, you know only what you have been given in the press. And we know how accurate that is, don't we?

I have been keeping up with these posts, and I have done some reseach. I have read that it is a total falsehood that Klonopin would give a false positive cocaine test. This kid injested cocaine, and whether it was prescription drugs or not, someone should sit in the pen and have some time to think about what COULD have happened to this innocent baby!!!

The little boy is being very well taken care of as i know his aunt and she would never let anything happen to him or to his sister. The main thing here is the little guy is doing great ...he is a healthy and happy 2 year old. And yeah it could have been worse but by the grace of God it wasnt. I am very glad that he is with someone that loves him and his sister and that takes very good care of them. God Bless her and all of the kids!

Does it really matter how far along the girl is? the fact is you are supposed to be protecting your children from these things! Not defending the people who are not protecting the children. I am glad the children are in good hands now, but if a man is going to jail and being charged with a felony for his child's sunburn, a parent whose child got into drugs should be punished severely. What if that baby would have overdosed? Would everyone be defending the mother then? Would it just be a little accident then? I hope not. The children that were in that home were lucky nothing worse happened to any of them!!!!

Posted by: Amy Location: Boyle on Jun 13, 2008 at 01:55 PM In the local Danville paper, it shows the mother 9 months pregnant. Our government should not allow these irresponsible people to continue to have children!! wow and i just talked to ashley tonight and she isnt 9 months pregnant. could it be oh my god the paper got it wrong????? No no that cant be true everyone knows that the media is NEVER wrong! She isnt anywhere near 9 months!

Posted by: Jarrod Michael Location: danville on Jun 15, 2008 at 10:52 PM
I just wonder if she thought it was some kind of joke or was she secretly hoping that he would overdose so she would not have to take care of him anymore? you must be one cruel person to say such a thing. Have you poisoned anyone lately? do you have kids? are they safe with you? Lord if you are a Christian i feel sorry for you because the god and i say that lightly isnt someone who i would want to worship. And jack you live in Pike co, so yeah i an see your locals yelling poor pitiful me, you all need a reality check. And Linda and beth I agree with you both on everything. ;o)

Like I've always said , cry 'em a handfull and holler I need help, poor pitiful me. Hey, it's KY, you'll get by with it.

I have read these comments after reading the article. Perhaps the judge was more intresting in the possible redemption of these two girls instead of turning them into hardened criminals by throwing them into the corrections system. We have a judge in the county I live in that is very pro drug rehab and gives sentences according to the efforts made while in jail. I don't know why anyone would think it is a good idea to get the gov't. involved in a sterilization program so "these" people can't have more kids. That smacks of something very un-American to me. Poor judgment doesn't just come with what some of you seems to be saying - medicaid recipients, young and unmarried. To say that maybe she secretly hoped he overdose (Jennifer) so she wouldn't have to take care of him anymore - do you have a heart? You don't even know her to make such a cruel and heartless suggestion. All based on what you hear in the news Glad we aren't neighbors because I am not that perfect

It makes you wonder who they ratted on while incarcerated and who is going to protect the unborn child. why do people alwats assume some one rats some one out? Stupid omment umless you have beem in jail and ratted out yourself on someone

Posted by: Lisa on Jun 14, 2008 at 09:09 PM
Who is going to monitor them when the decide to move out of the county. they didnt walk scot free and they no longer live in that nasty stinkiing town of danville

Posted by: Lisa on Jun 14, 2008 at 09:05 PM
Some of you people are truly idiots do you know that?? You read and see what you hear. you know NOTHIING about the truth of what happened. The boy is well and doing great. I have full custody of him and his sister. the girls dont have a coke stash, they didnt let the boy get into anything he could have picked it up on the street or anywhere considering danville is the biggest drug town in ky. Maybe he picked up from the boy 3 doors up who was cooking meth? And amy you go get tested because Klonipin DOES have the ocaine bean in it. check your doctor or go to a pharmasist and ask! as for you people saying they shouldnt have kids or reproduce..should you? Youre comments make me sick, hopefully someday you will get your heads out of your asses and know the truth. Oh wait you will in august when i give an interview to Channel 27. And they arent going to prison because they dont deserve to.

Posted by: Beth Location: Indianapolis on Jun 14, 2008 at 08:27 PM
I am so glad you those of you who have commented are so perfect and have never made a mistake. Yes, it was a terrible mistake to leave medicine around the house. One of the sisters had been in a car crash and was prescribed medicine for the resultant pain. And you are missing the fact that the minor child's name was given out in the press. Now where I live, that's against the law...but I guess you Kentucky folk don't have to protect a minor do you? And judging based on the news media reports...they don't even have the sentencing correct in this article. The boy is with family and very happy. And I suppose none of you have rebellious kids or relatives that have gone down the wrong path or gotten involved with drugs or alcohol. Maybe it is because one of the girls completed her drug rehab in jail that she is getting a second chance. Being on Medicaid has nothing to do with it. Being poor isn't a crime.

This girls (they can't be called women) should not be allowed to walk scott free on this. Who is going to monitor them when the decide to move out of the county. It does not matter what drug the child ingested, it was an illegal substance because neither could produce a prescription for it. I am raising a grandchild simply because his mother could not keep him away from circumstances just like this one. Thank God nothing ever happened to my grandchild. It makes you wonder who they ratted on while incarcerated and who is going to protect the unborn child.

@Fred Location: Lexington Never been to court have you? They gave her a 4yr deferment on her 4yr sentence in return for a guilty plea. In other words you say you did it and they let you go. What idiot wouldnt admit guilt unless they had a great lawyer and were truelly innocent? Plead not guilty go to trial and see what 12mothers and fathers give you instead of a judge.

this lady doe not deserve children . she hasnt taken responibliy for this child why should she have rights for any other.

Posted by: jennifer Location: rockastle on Jun 13, 2008 at 09:41 AM
How can we say she is a mother? If she was a mother she would not have that kind of stuff around her son or in her house.I just wonder if she thought it was some kind of joke or was she secretly hoping that he would overdose so she would not have to take care of him anymore? people like her do not need children. I think both of these females should go to jail. I hope the boy is doing well and is with family.

Posted by: Amy Location: Boyle on Jun 13, 2008 at 09:37 AM
Everyone knows that someone doesn't lick a pill and the hospital finds cocaine in their system. I take Klonipin, but I bet I would not test positive for cocaine....

Posted by: Susie Location: McCreary on Jun 13, 2008 at 09:23 AM
regardless cocaine or klonipin, how did the child get the drugs? Let me guess some one left them laying around. But Lisa says they found no drugs? So where did the baby get it? he's not old enough to visit the local drug dealer.

Posted by: Carter Location: down under on Jun 12, 2008 at 10:16 PM
Bet you a shiny penny this mom and child are Medicaid recipients.....can our state afford to pay for these people to reproduce, grow up if they are lucky and then reproduce again and again and again... without ever contributing to any progress in the state. Just thinking out loud. Hope noboby heard that......

Posted by: Lisa Location: danville on Jun 12, 2008 at 05:07 PM
first everyone needs to KNOW the child didnt injest cocaine, he licked some klonipin, and spit it out THERE WAS NO COCAINE AT ALL.There was no other option for Ashley or Jessica as they had to be punished for something that they didnt do.No drugs were found in or around the house, but Danville police had to arrest them for for some BS and they did. The boy is doing great, happy and with family.

FRED ARE U OUTTA UR MIND? THIS IS A 19 month old( i have a 19 month old ) and i wouldnt ever let my kid around anything like that- - she should go to prison and stay there for a while...

Posted by: H Location: Boyle county on Jun 12, 2008 at 01:14 PM
Both these women should serve time in the pen for letting a child near drugs. I can't believe the dad in Madison Co. is being charged for a sunburn, and our court systems are going to let two people walk the streets that have let a baby get into their cocaine stash!!!!!

Posted by: Fred Location: Lexington on Jun 12, 2008 at 12:22 PM
While this is a stupid, tragic event, I admit I have to give her credit for owning up to her actions.
