Herald-Leader Cuts 4% Of Staff

The changing economy is prompting a round of layoffs at the Lexington Herald-Leader and its parent company.

At the Herald-Leader, four percent of the staff, or the equivalent of 17 full-time employees, is being eliminated.

The layoffs are in addition to the elimination of 15 other jobs earlier this year through a buyout program.

In a memo to staff members, publisher Tim Kelly told members the layoffs are painful but a necessary step. Monday's layoffs impact workers in various departments, including news and advertising.
