ARH workers approve new contract

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Thousands of healthcare workers in eastern Kentucky have approved a new contract, avoiding a strike.

Around 2,200 employees of Appalachian Regional Healthcare, represented by the United Steelworkers, voted Friday to ratify the contract.

They had threatened to strike as early as Monday if an agreement hadn't been reached.

ARH officials say the contract will cover the next three years, and becomes effective Monday.

Both parties had worked over the last several weeks to come up with a contract agreement.
