Two killed after crane comes in contact with power line in Bourbon Co.

BOURBON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Two people are dead after an accident involving a power line in Bourbon County.

Officials say these two men were working on the chimney of a home as a part of a renovation project. It appears they swung the cherry-picker around and one of those men came into contact with a power line, killing both of them.

We don't the workers' names, but officials here tell us they were two men in their 50s and 60s. The sheriff said the two were apparently coming down from that chimney when the accident happened.

Sheriff Mark Matthews tells us, It's a tragedy. It's just something that these construction workers, and electrical workers and even law enforcement, you have to deal with the unknown and sometimes it gets you."

It happened around 10:30, but it wasn't until a couple of hours later that anyone realized what had happened. Kentucky Utilities dispatched workers to investigate a reported power outage.

KU workers traced the power line down the road until they found the two men. Part of the cherry-picker was on fire, but thankfully it didn't spread.

It has been dry recently and Sheriff Matthews says, "The fire danger, I don't think is near as bad, but it could have been a big deal."

Both of those men's bodies have been sent to Frankfort for an autopsy.
